GENESIS turns the Kaufmannskirche into a living canvas. The immersive light show stages the birth of life: animations, perfectly adapted to the architectural features of the walls and ceiling, merge with an original score.
State-of-the-art technology and creative animations merge to create a unique experience that gives us a glimpse of what the first days that founded our existence must have looked like.
You walk in, look up and let go. No guided tour, no assigned seating, no right or wrong spot. Take a seat on a chair or a floor cushion and find your own way into what is happening above you.
The Venue
The Kaufmannskirche (Merchants' Church) is one of the oldest parish churches in Erfurt and defines the Anger as a dominant urban landmark. Its origins are closely connected to the importance of the Anger as a medieval marketplace and to the prosperous middle class of the surrounding area. Particularly significant are its post-Reformation furnishings and its connection to Martin Luther and Johann Sebastian Bach: Luther preached here in 1522, and in 1668 Bach's parents were married here. Since 2007 the church has undergone extensive renovation, and it is accessible via all tram lines from the Anger stop.
